Scholarships are now open!

The Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation was set up to honour the name and achievements of the Olympian Don Oliver (1937-1996) who was a legend in Waitakere City and a New Zealand sporting figure.

When Don Oliver unexpectedly died in 1996 a group of enthusiastic volunteers came together to form the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation to honour his name and assist Waitakere City youth to achieve excellence in their chosen sport

The first intake of scholarships was 1998 and covered a variety of sports. Bradley Heaven -Golf, Karl Gollan-Softball , Nicole de Lautour- Triathlon , Gordon Bearman - Cycling , Daniel Shirley - Badminton and Tina-Lee Viskovich in Karate. The first 6 scholarships total value was $1500.00 each. Today the Foundation continues to make available a range of financial grants.  In 2005 the Foundation gave seven scholarships of $3000.00 each.

To be eligible  for a scholarship, pre-elite athletes must reside in West Auckland (including Avondale) and be between 14 -21 years old.
