Kohanga Reo
Kaiwhakahaere work differently with each Kohanga and Purapura depending on their needs. Some of the different ways Kaiwhakahaere attempt to tautoko and awhina our Kohanga Reo is through;
• Professional development and upskilling of Fundamental Development Skills with links to nga Atua and Tikanga based with Kaimahi and Matua
• Development of natural resources to support delivery of skills and physical activity
• Linking of Kohanga whānau to community based physical activities and sporting opportunities
• Implementation and support to hold ongoing Purapura Ra Tamariki (Kohanga Reo Sports Days)
For further support and resources please see the resources available through the Active Movement programme

Teachers Training College Support
The He Oranga Poutama team are delighted to have established a relationship with Te Wānanga Takiura o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori and Te Puna Wananga (2 x training colleges for Kura Kaupapa Māori teachers) where we will provide support regarding Māori sport and traditional physical recreation. This may include assisting with teaching, providing Māori games workshops and providing resources in order for those teachers to take the knowledge and skills into their respective schools.
Kura Māori
Each Kura is different and requires different levels of support which range from a workshop with Kaiako to learn some Traditional Māori Games to more intense mahi that look at the physical activity strategy within a kura. Kaiwhakahaere attempt to tautoko and awhina our Kura Māori through;
• Professional development and upskilling of Kaiako and whānau in sport and physical activity (including Traditional Māori Games workshops).
• Linking of Kura whānau to community based physical activities and sporting opportunities
• Implementation and support to hold ongoing inter kura sports days
• Support to plan physical activity within curriculum requirements.

Wharekura
Just like our Kura each Wharekura is different and requires different levels of support. Kaiwhakahaere attempt to tautoko and awhina our Wharekura through;
• Professional development and upskilling of Kaiako and whānau in sport and physical activity (including Traditional Māori Games).
• Linking of Kura whānau to community based physical activities and sporting opportunities
• Implementation and support to hold ongoing inter kura sports days
• Support to plan physical activity within curriculum requirements.
• Upskilling of Tauira for coaching and leadership programs.

Marae
Marae all have diverse strengths and ways in which they serve their whānau , hapu and iwi. Kaiwhakahaere have the skills to work with your Marae to tautoko and awhina with physical activity, sport and traditional Māori games.
• Identification of physical activity ‘champions' from within Marae
• Assistance to seek funding for resourcing of equipment to support delivery of sport and physical activity
• Linking of whānau to community based physical activities and sporting opportunities
• Development of a komiti to drive marae based sport and physical activity
• Needs assessment of whānau for delivery of sport and physical activity

Māori Sports Organisations
Kaiwhakahaere can tautoko and awhina our Māori Sports Organisations through the implementation of the Māori Organisational Tool within Māori Regional Sports Organisations (RSOs). The Organisational Development Tool (ODT) is a practical and comprehensive process designed by experts as part of Sport and Recreation (SPARC) New Zealand's focus on developing increasingly successful and sustainable sport and recreation organisations at National, Regional and Club levels.
The tool will provide clear direction for improving our Māori sports organisation.
Two of our Kaiwhakahaere are trained SPARC ODT Facilitators for the Māori ODT and are trained to assist you in getting the most from the tool, helping to maximise the potential of your sports organisation.
