KiwiSport

KiwiSport is a national initiative that was launched in 2009 by Prime Minister John Key. KiwiSport has very specific purposes:

• To increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport – during school, after school and by strengthening links with sports clubs.
• To increase the availability and accessibility of sport opportunities for all school-aged children to participate in organised sport.
• To support children in developing skills that will enable them to participate effectively in organised sport.

KiwiSport will see $82 million invested into sport for school aged children nationally spread over 4 years (2009 – 2013). This money is made up of 2 funds, the Direct Fund ($45 million) which is paid to directly to schools as part of their operational grant and the Regional Partnership fund ($37 million) which will be paid to initiatives involving clubs, schools and community groups to support sport for school-aged children managed by the 17 Regional Sports Trusts.

Sport Waitakere has developed, from consultation, a Waitakere KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund Plan. Outlined in this plan are the 4 areas of investment of approximately $370, 000 each year for the next three years. These areas are:

  1.  Regional Contestable Fund: Invested into a contestable process for regional project(s). The 4 Regional Sports Trusts from the Auckland region (Harbour Sport, Counties Manukau   Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitakere) will invest a percentage to fund these projects. 2. Secondary School Support: Invested to support the employment of sports coordinators in the secondary schools in Waitakere that were disadvantaged from the change in funding from the SportFit contract to KiwiSport and that demonstrate the Kiwisport outcomes. Additional funding available to those schools that chose to achieve Kiwisport outcomes through projects. Click here for more information

  3. Sport Activators Framework: Invested into a project that assists groups of schools (pods) to employ an Activator to deliver sport and recreation to the students. Sport Waitakere’s role is to provide professional development and guidance as well as ensuring the Activator’s time isn’t taken up with coordination. Sport Waitakere’s Regional Partnership Fund contributes 55% of costs towards delivery of this model and schools are required to contribute the remainder. Click here for more information

  4. Local Contestable Fund: Invested into a contestable process for Waitakere community through projects and initiatives that can provide new or increased opportunities of organised sport for school-aged children. FIND OUT MORE HERE
