Water Walking

Water Walking

Leave your gym shoes in the closet this summer and get to West Wave for an aerobic exercise that is easy on the joints!. The buoyancy of the water supports your body’s weight reducing stress on the joints and minimises pain. It is also a great resistance training session, with water providing 12 times the resistance of air. There are flotation belts available to the public for use in the deep end of the walking lanes, and there is always someone on hand should you need any assistance.

Water Walking and Aqua Jogging is normally done in waist to chest deep water so that your feet can touch the bottom of the pool. Short sharp walking movements provide resistance which can be increased by simply pumping faster, or try walking backwards and sideways to tone other muscles. Lifting your knees higher can also boost your workout, or add in some interval training - pumping arms and legs faster for a brief period, then returning to your normal pace, and repeating the process several times.
